Top Tips on Choosing the Best Chiropractor

Before starting chiropractic treatment, it is a good idea to arrange a telephone interview or ask for an in-office consultation to learn more about the chiropractor, the clinic, and the techniques offered. Sometimes, the chiropractor will request a personal consultation to discuss such details.

For most people seeking chiropractic care, it is important to feel comfortable and have a good relationship with the chiropractor and the clinic. This can go a long way in gaining a positive treatment experience. Consider the things that would make you feel most comfortable and use these as part of your judgment. This may mean how long you have to wait for appointments, how easy it is to get hold of your chiropractor or the location of the clinic.

Answering your own questions is also a crucial part in the decision process. Some things you may want to consider asking include:
Is the chiropractor friendly and polite?
Do you feel comfortable talking with the chiropractor?
Does the chiropractor fully answer all of your questions?
Does the chiropractor listen to your explanation of symptoms and treatment preferences?
How many years has the chiropractor been in practice?

If it makes you feel more comfortable, you may also want to conduct some background research on the chiropractor. It is your body; you can take as long as you need to decide on which chiropractor will be treating you.

Selecting a health care professional is something that should be done with care. Do not feel under any obligation to be treated by the first chiropractor you interview – some patients speak to several chiropractors before finding one best suited to treat their problems.

Remember that the chiropractor’s role is to recommend the recommended course of care for you, and it is your decision whether or not to accept those recommendations. You should never feel like a chiropractor is pressuring you into a treatment or payment decision.

Before selecting a chiropractor, you should be aware that there are many different chiropractic techniques. Some chiropractors perform joint manipulation with their hands only, while others use various instruments. Also, some chiropractors use quick but firm manipulation, while others have a lighter technique. Think about the kind of techniques you prefer. Do you like the immediate feeling of relief after the “joint popping” type of spinal manipulation or do you prefer something a little more subtle?

The more you know your own requirements, the better you will be able to choose a suitable chiropractor.

Some questions you may want to ask include:

Which chiropractic techniques does the chiropractor use and why? Most chiropractors are experienced in a range of techniques and will choose the one or ones best suited to the patient and his or her condition.

Does the chiropractor use his or her hands or an instrument for the chiropractic manipulation?

Will the chiropractor listen to your preferred techniques and work a treatment plan around that?

When choosing an Austin, TX chiropractor, the bottom line is that the better the relationship between you both, the better the outcome of the treatment. So take your time, absorb the facts, and make sure you are happy with the decisions you make.

Saunas and Infrared Saunas

When I think of a sauna, I think of luxury resorts, hotels, gyms and holidays abroad. Now, with the help of new technology, you can have an infrared saunas in your very own home, bringing this luxury pastime into your dwelling abode. The Finns have long made saunas a tradition and continue to uphold this culture where there is one sauna to every 2.6 people: that’s 2,000,000 saunas for a population of 5,255,580 (2005). Considering the number of televisions the Finns have is 1.92 million (1995 est.) and the number of telephones is 2.5 million (1995 est.), saunas certainly have their place in the Finnish culture. Saunas are extremely relaxing, they’re good for the health and they are a place for families, that’s why they have become such a big part in Finnish culture.

Pre-cut or Pre-assembled Infrared Sauna

Infrared saunas are manufactured in all shapes and sizes for the tastes and styles of all customers. The infrared sauna can arrive at your house pre-built in the form of sauna kits and they can also come in panel form, bespoke for your room requirements. The ease of installation of the infrared sauna kits has made it a popular choice amongst sauna buyers. Installation of an infrared sauna from a kit is just a matter of slotting the sides together, putting the roof on and plugging it in. One can go from infrared sauna parts in a box to a fully built infrared sauna in 20 minutes!

Indoor or Outdoor Infrared Sauna

After you have decided what type of infrared sauna you want, the next step is to decide the location. First it is important to use a shower to rinse off after using the infrared sauna therefore it is useful to have one near the infrared sauna. You also have the option of having the infrared sauna inside or outside. Outside infrared saunas are constructed and treated differently to indoor infrared saunas.

Infrared Sauna Woods

Another choice you may have to face, depending on the infrared sauna company you use is the type of wood you want for your infrared sauna. Infrared sauna wood can come in many varieties including hemlock, spruce, cedar, redwood and aspen. Each of these woods are available in different varieties and colours, leaving the sauna buyer with a healthy selection to choose from. These woods absorb the steam from the evaporated water in the saunas and the temperature of the sauna wood remains relatively cool, giving the bather a relaxing experience, not getting burnt in the infrared sauna. Cedar wood is hardy, resistant to decay, good in harsh weather conditions, aromatic and is pleasing to the eye. Traditional Finnish saunas are made from Nordic white spruce which has a white tone and small knots. Pine and domestic spruce are not of the same quality as Nordic white spruce as the woods have knots which are larger and more susceptible to drying and fall out over time.

Infrared saunas are a long term addition to your home. When making a purchasing decision, take into consideration all the factors previously mentioned. The worst thing that could happen is to buy an infrared sauna which you are not pleased with. Make sure what you’re buying is what you want; after all, infrared saunas are for relaxing.

The Importance of Minerals to Health

We’ve all heard about the importance of a balanced diet and the good sense of taking a multi-vitamin supplement everyday. Many people though do not realize the incredible importance of getting enough of the essential minerals. It is not uncommon to hear about vitamins and minerals together but when most people read or think about maintaining optimum health; the emphasis seems to fall on the vitamins.

Minerals are essential to maintaining good health. They help our body absorb and use vitamins and act as catalysts for a number of chemical processes. Our bodies can manufacture a number of vitamins but minerals cannot be made in by our cells. We must obtain all the minerals we need from our diet or through supplementation. RNA reset is the best way to get 100% absorbed at the cellular level.

Minerals are classified in two categories: bulk minerals and trace minerals. Bulk mineral are those minerals that make up parts of our body such as bones and teeth. These minerals are need by the body in greater amounts and include calcium. Trace minerals also have important functions in the body but are needed in much smaller amounts. For a long time, scientists didn’t even believe that trace minerals were necessary and that there was no negative impact to a lack of trace minerals. That has been proven to not be true as trace minerals help the body in numerous ways including metabolism, functioning of the nervous system and many others.

Minerals are also important for the balance they maintain in our body. Our bodies are approximately 70% water. It’s important though that the fluids in our body be correctly balance. They cannot be too acidic nor too alkaline. Minerals help maintain both the balance in how much water our body holds but also maintain the acidity and alkalinity of the fluids.

A number of our body’s processes are electrical. Electrical charges in the body help our nervous system relay messages from our brain, help transport nutrients through the body and help our muscles function. Minerals are essential because their molecules carry positive and negative electrical charges. Without minerals, the fluids in our body would not conduct those electrical impulses.

We need a variety of both bulk and trace minerals to guarantee optimum health. This is because minerals work in concert with one another rather than by themselves. Selenium helps iodine perform its functions. Magnesium helps the body use calcium. Boron helps in the utilization of both magnesium and calcium. It’s important to get the correct amount of the whole array of minerals.

While we can get a lot of minerals from our food, each person absorbs minerals differently. Subtle differences in digestive system, blood stream and other factors can affect how easily minerals are absorbed and used. Aging also reduces the body’s ability to absorb and use minerals. It is also crucial that the minerals be in a form that can readily be used by the body. The best form is water soluble. This makes liquid, ionic mineral supplements an ideal way to maintain good health by getting the correct amount of minerals.

DBT: How Emotion Impacts Thinking, Self, and Relationships

One of the theories behind DBT Orange County is that emotions interfere with other aspects of functioning. If emotional arousal is high it has the capacity to interfere with thinking, experience of self, actions, and interpersonal relationships. This may be especially true for people that are sensitive to emotions, experience emotions as strong and intense, and have difficulty getting emotional arousal down.

For instance, if you are feeling extremely threatened you may have a tendency to argue, attack, avoid or withdraw, attempt to problem-solve or fix by ruminating on past or recent interactions. You may become preoccupied with the event(s) in which you became threatened in the first place. When your thoughts become preoccupied with the threatening situation, it is hard to be “in-the-moment” in other areas of your life. (For instance, it is really hard to “be” with friends when your attention is clearly somewhere else).

Because people sometimes behave in out-of-control ways when they are under emotional threat, a person may experience him or herself as out-of-control of undesirable actions. Actions (ie, self harm, breaking things, picking a fight, getting drunk, attacking, saying mean things, avoiding people) may temporarily reduce or control strong emotions, but most of the time lead to unwanted long-term consequences.

People who have difficulty with strong emotions often believe that emotions “come out of nowhere.” When emotions “come out of nowhere”, it is difficult to predict when they will show up. If a person can’t predict when emotions show up, and if strong emotions lead to out-of-control type actions (or interactions!)- a person will not experience a high degree of self-control. This may lead to confusion about experience, difficulty organizing or “knowing” oneself, or problems following through on tasks or activities. Intentions may not get carried out because 1) emotional arousal is already high 2) when emotional arousal is high, the person a had a lower tolerance or threshold for new emotional stimuli 3) the environment will continue to make demands/ expect things of a person. Thus, one’s attention and energy can be so pre-occupied that one may lose all sense of purpose and direction.

When emotions control a person’s life, it becomes clear that relationships are impacted negatively. Avoiding, arguing, withdrawing- or picking up the pieces after a big fight- can be a painful business that can threaten to destroy or strain relationships over time. Interactions that evoke strong emotions, invite people to take a strong stand on something despite disagreement in the community, or pursue goals and dreams may be easier to avoid altogether. In some cases, attacking or threatening other people may be a short-term way to avoid unwanted situations, losses, or other painful stuff.

Mindfulness is considered to be a “core skill” in DBT. As abstract as it sometimes sounds, the concept of mindfulness has to do with the ability to be centered, grounded, attentive, “real”, and connected. Mindfulness has to do keeping all the impinging emotional extremes manageable. One of the purposes of being mindful is to decrease confusion about oneself. “Knowing oneself” is a benefit of showing up, paying attention, and taking notice. It is extremely hard to do, takes a lot of hard work, and can be really frustrating to “get”. It is also really hard to think of how it applies, and can take considerable patience in terms of getting it “work.” It really does work, though!
